Mercer Island DUI Cases: Local information for those arrested for impaired driving in Mercer Island, WA

If a person is stopped and arrested by a Mercer Island Police Officer for suspicion of DUI, they will be taken to the Mercer Island Police Department for BAC processing.  The Mercer Island Police Department is 9611 SE 36th St.  Mercer Island, WA.

The Mercer Island Police Department is located adjacent to the City Hall and Municipal Court for the City of Mercer Island.

If a person is taken to the Mercer Island Police Department for BAC processing, there is video recorder in the breath test room.  People who were taken to the Mercer Island Police Department as a result of their arrest for DUI may request a copy of the video recording during the time they were at the station.  This request is typically made directly with the Mercer Island Police Department.  The Mercer Island Police Department currently employs 4 patrol sergeants and 15 police officers that serve the community.  Currently, there are no officers with the Mercer Island Police Department who have a video recorder in their vehicle to record the investigation for DUI.

If a person receives a Mercer Island DUI, they will likely have charges filed via investigation. Typically, they will receive a summons to appear in court for their arraignment anywhere from 1-5 weeks after their arrest (It is sometimes longer in certain circumstances, such as if there is a blood test in which test results are pending from the Washington State Toxicology Laboratory). The City Attorney for Mercer Island is Katie Knight.  Recently, the City hired a new Assistant City Attorney who will serve as the prosecutor for Mercer Island DUI cases.  That person is expected to begin work in the next few weeks.

People who face a Mercer Island DUI will have court at the Mercer Island Municipal Court which is adjacent to the City Hall and Police Department (9611 SE 36th St  Mercer Island, WA  98040.  The Mercer Island Municipal Court Judge is the Honorable Wayne Stewart.  Judge Stewart, prior to ascending to the bench, served as the Mercer Island Prosecutor for several years.
