Your Colorado County DUI Attorney can assist you with fighting your case in order to receive the least amount of repercussions and consequences as possible. You could face serious penalties for each of your drunk driving offenses.

A first offense could render up to $2,000 in fines ($4,000 if BAC is above 0.15%). A minimum of three days will be spent in jail, up to one year for high BAC. Your license will be suspended for anywhere between 90 days and one year. Special insurance must be applied for, and installation of Ignition Interlock Device for half of your restricted driving period is possible. You will also be required to pay a fee of $1,000-$2,000 per year for three years in order to keep your driver’s license after suspension is lifted.

Second drunk driving offenses in Texas increase fines up to $4,000 and time spent in jail to a minimum of 30 days. Your license will be suspended for one to two years and the annual fee is still applicable. You may also possibly be required to install an Ignition Interlock Device at your expense.

Third and subsequent offenses are now considered felonies. Your fines could add up to $10,000 and you could spend anywhere from two to ten years in jail. Your license will be suspended from one to two years and the annual license retention fee will be charged.

The state of Texas has a ten year “washout” period, or “look back” period. If you have had multiple DUI charges within the last ten years you will be charged according to the number of offense you have committed. You have 15 days after your arrest to contact the court with a request for a hearing. If you do not contact the court within these 15 days your license will automatically be suspended.
