Sandra Vasquez was sentenced to fifteen years in jail for a car crash that killed five teens in 2007. She was drunk at the time of the accident.
Ms. Vasquez collapsed in the courtroom after hearing the testimony and verdict.
She was charged with aggravated DUI and reckless homicide, which carries a sentence of up to twenty-eight years.
Kendall County, Illinois Judge, Clint Hall, sentenced Ms. Vasquez Friday after hearing testimony from the relatives of the young victims and Sandra Vasquez's relatives.
Ms. Vasquez, who had eight Oswego High School students packed in her car, plowed into a utility pole.
Four of the five teenagers died at the scene of the accident, the fith child died later at the hospital.
"As a result of your decision, five people are dead," Kendall County Judge Clint Hull told Sandra Vasquez."You are not a bad person. You made a bad decision but a conscious decision. You had the keys, you didn't have to drive."
Ms. Vasquez, who was twenty-three at the time of the accident, has an eight year old son.
