A two-car accident in the Houston area ended with a helicopter lifting two young boys to a local hospital and a DWI charge for one driver.
Surprisingly, the driver arrested for DWI was carrying the young children. At this point, it is hard to tell which driver was at fault in the accident, however. The cars collided at an intersection of Highway 288 and Oak Drive, but investigators cannot conclude which car ran the red light. The driver of a Buick carrying two young boys showed signs of intoxication after the 3:30 PM accident, leading to the charge.
Two medics were witness to the accident, but they were unable to see which car was at fault. Thankfully, however, they were present to treat the passengers immediately. Firefighters needed to cut open the Buick to cut out a female passenger.
The two children suffered head injuries, according to reports. The driver was taken to the hospital as well for blood samples. He has been charged with DWI with a child passenger. In Texas, under Sec 49.045 of the statute, DWI with a child passenger is listed as a felony charge. Texas is one of few states to automatically charge for a felony if a child is in the car when a DWI takes place.
