The 19-year-old woman accused of driving under the influence in a fatal Henderson, Nevada, accident earlier this month will have a preliminary hearing tomorrow at 9:30AM.
Anita Mann will face charges of felony DUI resulting in death, hit-and-run and failure to render aid when she stands before a judge at that point. The accident occurred February 16, but Mann entered a not guilty plea on the 17th in a municipal court. Her hearing is scheduled to take place in Henderson Justice Court.
The accident occurred when Mann's Hyundai sedan rear-ended that of a 65-year-old woman and man, who were both pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were later identified as local Henderson residents Karen Hicks and Louis Madden. Their sedan, also a Hyundai, overturned in the accident. Karen was ejected from the vehicle as a result of the impact.
Police were on the alert prior to the accident because they had received a phone call about a suspected drunken driver in the area. They were dispatched to Horizon Ridge Parkway, but they arrived too late.
Mann graduated high school in 2008. She serves as a private first class in the Nevada National Guard. Her family and supporters have expressed regret at the accident publicly, but none have commented on how Mann intends to proceed with her defense.
