Police have charged both drivers in a two-car, head-on collision that took place Sunday morning in Somonauk, Illinois, with DUI.

Both suspects were severely injured in the accident near 1:30AM. They were airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. The victims, also the accused, were identified as 31-year-old Daniel Cassin and 27-year-old Randy Vineyard.

The accident occurred when both cars crossed the center divider on East Railroad Street. The Life Flight support team was called in due to the severity of the accidents sustained. Since the drivers were hospitalized following the traffic accident, no warrant was needed to require a blood test. Vials taken at the hospital at the request of law enforcement will be used to ultimately determine if indeed the drivers were under the influence of any compound.

Cassin was specifically charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, DUI, improper lane usage and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Vineyard was charged with DUI, DUI drugs, failure to wear a seatbelt and failure to reduce speed. It is unclear whether the men admitted to intoxication, were in possession of intoxicating substances or appeared intoxicated to medical personnel. The fact the charges were issued at this point, though, likely means police have some hard evidence.

No information has been released about the current condition of the victims. An accident investigation team is reviewing the scene. Although both drivers were under the influence, if one or the other is discovered to have played a leading role in the accident, he may face more severe penalties. In this case, since both crossed the center line, the charges for each man are likely to be similar if not equal.
