Police in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, area have arrested the suspect of a Feb. 6 homicide in Vallejo, California, after a standard DUI stop.
23-year-old Ross Gabriel Ellis is being held on murder charges for a shooting that occurred near 1AM on Feb. 6. The victim, Marico Whitemon, 36, was gunned down outside a liquor store. A second suspect in the shooting remains at large. Just a few hours after that incident, Ellis was cited for DUI charges in Vallejo, but he was not yet a suspect in the murder case. He was released of his own recognizance in that incident.
Ellis fled to Pennsylvania, and police then issued a warrant for his arrest. He was apprehended Friday on the homicide warrant and drug charges. Ellis was the passenger in a car involved in a routine traffic stop. Ronald Lewis, the driver of the vehicle, was also arrested on outstanding warrants. During the arrest, the men were found with nearly two pounds of marijuana.
Ellis was transported back to Solano County to be held for his outstanding homicide charge. He will be arraigned this week, but prosecutors do not expect he will be released on bond due to this earlier flight from California.
Police are asking for assistance locating the second suspect. He is described as a Hispanic male in his late to mid-20s, thin and about 5'5" to 5'9" tall. If you have information on this suspects whereabouts, you are asked to contact the Vallejo Police Department at 800-488-9383.
