Michigan decided to purchase a new type of breath testing system, the DataMaster DMT, to serve as the breath tester of choice in DUI cases. 

Millions have been earmarked for the purchase of these machines since the change was announced, but Michigan DUI prosecutors are still without any chance to use evidence from the machines in court - because no machine has been put into service. A number of DUI defense attorneys in the area are asking why the delays have occurred. 

The DMT was ordered to be the new standard after a long investigation into its reliability conducted by several toxicologist experts. The experts were testing whether common defenses, such as substances present in the mouth that could interfere with results, were valid with either the new machines or the old machines.

140 new DMT devices have been purchased to date according to local law firms. The total sum expected to be ordered was around 210, also according to local law firms following the update.
