The death of a 47-year-old man last May has resulted in the 18-year prison sentence of the woman who pleaded guilty to causing his death.

Donna Sheedy, 61, will be in prison until she is in her late 70's after expressing extreme remorse for the death of Kenneth Temple. Sheedy told the court her remorse comes partly from the fact her brother was killed by a drunk driver a few years back.

The accident occurred on May 15, while Temple was traveling with his family in connection with the Harley-Davidson Cruisin' the Coast Spring rally. Temple was struck when Sheedy crossed a center line, hitting his motorcycle, another driven by his nephew, and then a third vehicle. Sheedy was admitted to the hospital along with the victims, and her BAC was recorded at .27% at that time.

The 18-year sentence may sound steep for a plea bargain situation. However, Sheedy had a prior DUI arrest, and a judge felt she did not learn her lesson after that 2007 conviction. Sheedy also faced up to 25 years in prison, so the 18 year sentence was only a partial sentence.

Temple left behind a 19-year-old daughter and 17-year old son who both testified in the sentencing hearing. Sheedy said she pleaded guilty in part to apologize to the family for what she had done.
