Wisconsin State Representative Jeff Wood has reached a plea deal stemming from his October arrest for OWI, one of his three OWI cases.

Wood pleaded guilty to third-offense operating under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia. Wood was found to be clear of alcohol during a breath test following the arrest. However, police located a host of prescription medications in his vehicle including 22 pills of fluoxetine and 55 pills of Naproxen.

The arrest was Wood's fifth for OWI-related issues, and Gov. Jim Doyle requested his resignation. When Wood did not resign, a committee was established in effort to expel Wood, an independent, from the state legislature. The October arrest was Wood's second in just one month.

Wood will receive his sentence on April 19. He is still facing an OWI charge in Marathon and Monroe counties. He will have to resolve those issues separately. In Wisconsin, a fifth OWI arrest is now considered a felony.

The effort to oust Wood from the legislature did succeed. He was officially expelled by the 67th Assembly in a 2009 resolution, only the third of its type in state history. The full resolution can be viewed as a pdf document by pasting this URL into your browser:
