Prosecutors have officially charged a young man with aggravated DUI in the Southwest Side crash that occurred Sunday night.

21-year-old Anthony Galvan, a Chicago local, is accused with drunk driving in connection with the death of a 27-year-old man. Galvan was driving on 58th Street, a one-way street, around 3AM in the wrong direction. He then entered an intersection without breaking, colliding with another vehicle.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Mt. Sinai Hospital. He was pronounced dead within 30 minutes. Neither Galvan nor his young male passenger were in need of medical attention.

All told, Galvan will face a host of charges including: aggravated DUI resulting in death, DUI drugs, failure to reduce speed, driving the wrong way on a one way street, failure to yield, driving without insurance and reckless driving. Exact details on the charges and sentencing are still forthcoming.

The accident occurred in the presence of many aggravating factors, such as driving the wrong way down a one way street. Officers will investigate the potential for any mitigating factors as well, such as whether the victim was breaking any traffic laws at the time of the accident. The charges as they stand now are a result of a complete investigation of the scene of the accident.

The name of the victim has not yet been released, likely pending family notification.
