Two vehicles collided on Friday morning, sending 4 people total to the hospital and resulting in 2 DUI arrests, one for each driver.

The collision occurred around 3AM Friday morning near Second Loop Road in Florence. There, a 45-year-old driver collided with another car driven by 22-year-old Anthony Doherty. The name of the first driver has not yet been released. Police reports say both men were under the influence at the time of the accident.

The first car ended up striking a tree, while the second car sustained severe damage. One passenger in the second car was thrown through the windshield. Doherty was not hurt, and he was released from the Florence County Detention Center on Monday. The first driver remains in the hospital.

Traffic in both lanes was stopped for hours as the crash was attended to. Investigations will continue to determine which driver was largely responsible for the crash, which may affect the sentencing. If either driver was breaking a traffic law in addition to driving under the influence at the time of the accident, a felony charge may result.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing. When the first driver is released from the hospital, his name will be released, and more charges may follow. Police continue to remind drivers of the dangers on the roads this holiday season. Wearing a seatbelt, exercising caution and drinking responsibly are all strong suggestions to avoid injury or arrest.
