A 17-year-old teenager has been charged in connection with the death of an elderly man in a DWI accident; the boy's mother has been charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor.

The boy, Lars C. Haas, is suspected of driving drunk on November 14. He allegedly ran a red light, striking a truck driven by 72-year-old Robert Meehan. Meehan was ejected and died shortly after.

Not only is Haas's mother, Susan, charged with furnishing him the alcohol, Haas was also driving his mother's car at the time of the accident. The woman supposedly served alcohol to the boy and his friends shortly before the accident. She was not in the car when the accident occurred.

Though an exact figure has not been released, officers have confirmed Haas's BAC was over the legal limit in the state of New York; he also had marijuana in his system. He has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, DWI and other charges.

Susan Haas faces charges of unlawfully dealing with a child, a misdemeanor. The two were arraigned, and Lars was held on $25,000 cash bail while Susan was released.
