A deputy district attorney in the Sacramento area was arrested last week under suspicion of driving under the influence.
Ross Robert Huggins was pulled over when officers noted him driving erratically at nearly 2AM on November 19. They asked Huggins to perform a field sobriety test and then a breath test. While arrest reports indicate he failed both, the exact BAC has not been reported.
Huggins was booked and then released of his own recognizance. He issued a very brief apology to the public but refused further comment. Huggins is known for his work prosecuting offenses against children. However, Huggins has taken a key role in several DUI cases.
Two of those cases include the reckless driving charges against Chris Webber and Jason Williams, Sacramento Kings basketball players. Both men were found not guilty in those cases.
Huggins has been with the prosecutor's office for over 10 years now. He has been a member of the California State Bar since 1991. There is no word on how the office will handle the arrest yet. However, it may be possible for Huggins to participate in an expungement program to have the offense released from his record since it was his first arrest.
