41-year-old Eric Snitz was sentenced to the maximum four years following a 2008 DUI crash that claimed the life of a local teen.
The victim, 17-year-old Christopher Brown, was returning from work when the accident occurred. He suffered major head injuries and died later at a hospital. Snitz was believed to be traveling around 80 mph when the crash occurred.
Adding to the sentencing that was handed down Friday, Snitz had a loaded gun with him at the time of the accident. He additionally attempted to flee the scene and reused a blood alcohol test. Aggravating circumstances also included the fact he had 2 prior DUI convictions in Kansas.
Snitz received the maximum sentence for involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. His defense attorney was seeking a 42 month sentence. Snitz read aloud an apology letter in court expressing his remorse over the incident.
While the family of Brown may not have received much relief at Snitz's apology, they expressed great joy at another letter they received the same week. Brown's organs were donated, and one saved the life of a person who wanted to speak with them to express his gratitude.
