911 dispatchers in Wisconsin received a phone call reporting impaired driving on the road only to find out the caller was reporting herself.
Mary Strey told a 911 dispatcher that someone had too much to drink and was driving down the road. When the dispatcher asked if she was following the car, she informed the person that she was actually the driver.
The dispatcher went on to confirm that Strey was calling to report herself, to which she replied, "yes," and pulled over her car. Surprisingly, she even waited where she told the officer she would, hazard lights flashing.
A deputy arrived at the scene and administered a field sobriety test, which Strey failed. She then submitted a breath sample, posting a BAC of .19%. She was given a citation of OUI and will appear in court in December.
It is likely a judge will take the sentencing lightly since Strey reported herself and complied with both the 911 dispatcher's request and the requests of police officers. Judges typically take these factors into consideration, and she may be offered probation or other sentencing as opposed to jail time.
