Former Detroit Lions wideout Charles Rogers was found unresponsive behind the wheel of his car on Wednesday and charged with Michigan OWI.

Rogers was arraigned this morning on alcohol-related charges in a court in Novi. When officers found the car on Wednesday, the key was in the ignition, the car was running and in gear on Meadowbrook Road.

Rogers then failed a field sobriety test and was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with an invalid license. He will face just over 3 months in jail if convicted and fines up to $500.

Rogers was once a start at Michigan State and a first round draft pick in 2003 when he was the number 2 overall pick. Rogers played only 15 total games in three years. Rogers was initially suspended from the NFL for failure to comply with a drug policy.

Following his suspension, Rogers was sued by the Detroit Lions for $6.1 million he initially received in bonus money. An NFL arbitrator agreed the Lions were owed this money. Rogers intended to play for the CFL in order to make good on some of his football talent.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were set to sign Rogers, but they learned he was still under suspension from the NFL. The CFL has a new rule that players need to be reinstated by the NFL before they can be signed north of the border. This rule was enforced after Ricky Williams left the Miami Dolphins and went to play for the CFL following a drug-related suspension.
