Is a prior DWI considered an aggravating factor in a Minnesota DWI case if it didn't happen in Minnesota?

If I admitted to the cop that I had a prior DUI conviction (it was in Wisconsin), but didn't tell him where it was or when it was, can they use this against me? If yes (which I suspect and greatly fear), what kind of damage does it do to my case and my chances of getting off with just a few days in jail.

After I told the officer that I had been arrested before, he seemed to get pretty upset, and I think I had the good sense not to say too much more, but I'm afraid I've shot myself in the foot and dug a pretty deep hole to have to haul myself out of.

If they find out where the DUI was, will they be able to get the documents from it? Can I fight the extradition of those records, or have them sealed.

My former DUI was about 17 years ago, and I was a kid at the time, so I'm not sure if they even keep records that long.

Would hiring a Minnesota DWI lawyer help? What about hiring a Wisconsin DWI lawyer to help protect my record there?

I can't afford to get this DWI conviction, let along have an aggravating prior on my record, and I know that it will cost thousands of dollars to fight, but that will be well worth it if the attorneys can minimize it. I don't want to go with the public defender (nor do I think I can qualify at this point, since between my wife and me we make over $150k a year).
