DUI Work Driving Permits NOT Available For Out of State Drivers in Arizona DUI Cases:
Arizona only has the power to suspend your driving privilege in Arizona. That means that if you have a non-AZ license, it will be up to the State which issued your license to decide whether or not to honor any suspension that Arizona imposes based on your DUI.
If you now live in Arizona but have an out of state drivers license when you are pulled over for DUI, be very careful. It may be in your best interest to get an AZ license if you can, as soon as you can, if you intend to remain in Arizona. Why? Because Arizona will not issue a work permit or restricted license to non-Arizona Drivers License holders. That means that on the typical DUI suspension for a first offense, instead of waiting only 30 days and then being permitted to drive to and from work, you would have to endure the full 90 day suspension before being eligible to driver again in Arizona.
Each case is unique, and make sure you discuss your license options immediately with your Arizona DUI lawyer.
