Police Experience: Mr. Mahaney served 22 years as a state police officer with the Alabama Department of Public Safety. He trained hundreds of officers in criminal law and served as the department attorney in state and federal court for 8 years. He also served as chief of law enforcement planning from 1997 to 1999.  Military Service: Mr. Mahaney has more than 28 years of military service as a commissioned regular and reserve officer in the United States Army. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve. He qualified as an infantry officer, a military police officer, intelligence officer. He was also airborne and ranger qualified, and served in special operations.International Criminal Justice Experience: Mr. Mahaney served as a senior staff officer in Iraq where he advised the Iraqi Police Service. He also served as a staff officer and training coordinator for the Jordan International Police Training Center. He also served with the United Nations in Kosovo, where he was legal counsel for the UN police. Education: Mr. Mahaney holds a B.A. Degree in Political Science from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C and a Juris Doctor Degree from Jones School of Law.
